Relationship between different feeding stages and disease in pigs

The purpose of modern pig production is to provide slaughter processors and consumers with high-quality slaughter pig carcasses and lean meat products. Breeding and introduction are the main ways to increase the heredity, breeding rate, and selling price of breeding herds. Introduced behavior inevitably brings more diseases. Population renewal is likely to cause a temporary decline in the breeding capacity of the farm. Mismanagement of feeding during the breeding period can easily lead to an increase in the accidental elimination rate of sows. This article discusses ways to reduce this loss.

I. Production targets for breeding herds

1.Features of breeding herds

The genetic potential has excellent growth, carcass traits and reproductive performance; there is no specific pathogen, the level of population immunity is stable; the gestational age structure of the population is reasonable: the mating power of parent and maternal lines is high.

2. Production targets for breeding herds

Each sow provides the number of weaned piglets, namely Pigs weaned/Sow/Year (abbreviated as PSY), reaching 18 or more; Weaned piglet health, weighing more than 5.5 kg, Piglet survival rate of more than 92%, 8 weeks old piglet It weighs more than 20 kilograms. Sows maintain a good reproduction capacity with an average weaning-seeding interval of less than 7 days.

Second, the population update recommended program

According to the theory of modern pig production, the number of PSY per breeding barn sow should be at least 18, otherwise, the annual slaughter volume of the 600 sow farms will be less than 10,000. The highly bred lean sows had the most ovulation number and the largest litter size in the 8th. However, their actual litter size tends to perform best in the 3rd to 4th. Therefore, the gestational age structure of the population is very important in the production, and a good gestational age structure is achieved through a 30%-40% annual turnover rate of sows and a 40%-50% annual turnover rate of boars.

By reducing the number of introductions through modern artificial insemination techniques, it is best to build an artificial insemination station at an isolated site more than 100 meters away from the original farm. Separating semen of boars from off-site isolated artificial insemination stations or socially commercial artificial insemination stations, avoiding the introduction of live boars in large quantities to achieve the effect of confined breeding herds and maintaining relative stability of population immunity levels. Ensure that piglets receive better passive immune protection from the mother during lactation. It is recommended to adopt the method of blocking the core group within the scale of production sites with annual output of 10,000 pigs.

III. Special management of reserve and first-born sows

The gilts introduced must be subject to strict isolation and adaptation procedures before entering the market. Taking into account the hazards of PRRS, it is better to adopt the isolation and feeding program for the first-born sows and the sows in different locations. The litter performance of gilts has a greater impact on their reproductive performance throughout their lives.
