The team of Prof. Yanhua from Jiangnan University used DNA self-assembly technology for the first time to assemble gold nanorods into a dimer structure through layered multi-stage subassembly, and then assembled them into satellite-like nanostructures with upconversion nanomaterials. The assembly not only enables photothermal and photodynamic therapy of tumor cells, but further studies have shown that its photothermal efficiency can reach 42.3%, more than twice that of a single gold rod assembly. At the same time, in order to eliminate the quenching effect of the gold rod on the upconversion luminescence, the gold rod dimer and the upconversion intermediate are wrapped with high polymer, which realizes the multimodal imaging and combined treatment of the assembly for the living tumor, and is a nanomaterial assembly. Biological applications have opened up new avenues.
