Food Partner Network News According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the recent OIE release of the outbreak report showed that the highly pathogenic bird flu epidemic occurred in France, the Netherlands, and Romania, and the foot-and-mouth disease occurred in Russia adjacent to China.
The epidemic situation in various countries is as follows:
On November 28th, the French Ministry of Agriculture, Agri-food and Forestry reported to the OIE that on November 17th, a H5N8 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza was found in wild animals in the province of Pas-de-Calais. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 75 red-necked ducks were suspected of being affected, of which 25 were morbid and dead. Sources of infection are related to exposure to wild animals. This is the first time in France that H5N8 subtype HPAI has occurred (in France there have been other subtypes of highly pathogenic avian influenza).
On November 28, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs reported to OIE that on November 25, a H5N8 subtype of HPAI was found on a farm in Flevoland Province. Laboratory tests revealed that 10,000 poultry were suspected of being affected, of which 500 were morbid and dead and 9500 were destroyed. The source of infection is not yet clear. The last epidemic of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the Netherlands was in April 2015 (actually, the Netherlands discovered the H5N8 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the wild on November 14).
On November 29, Romania’s National Agency for Veterinary Health and Food Safety reported to OIE that on November 23, a H5N8 subtype HPAI occurred in Constanta County (Constanta). One of the swan swan was sick and died. Romania did not indicate the type of animal and suspected it was a wild animal. The diagnostic nature is laboratory testing. Sources of infection are related to exposure to wild animals. This is the first case of highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu in Romania (other subtypes of HPAI have occurred in Romania).
On November 28, 2016, the website of the Russian Federation’s Veterinary Plant Supervision Bureau published a news release saying that there was a suspected foot-and-mouth disease in cattle in private farms in the Krasnokamensk region of Russia’s outer Baikal Territory, and the All-Russia Institute of Animal Health Sciences on November 26 O-type foot-and-mouth disease antigens were isolated from the extracted virus material. At present, the Federal Veterinary and Plant Supervision Bureau has deployed staff to take control measures in the affected areas to prevent the spread of the disease.
