The biggest medical competition in human history is about to usher in a final confrontation

Sponsored by the XPRIZE Foundation of the United States, sponsored by the Qualcomm Foundation, the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, the largest medical competition in human history with a total prize of $10 million, was announced on the morning of the 13th (East Time) after a long three-year competition. The last two teams selected from more than 300 participating teams from around the world will be the finalists.

One of the teams is the “Dynamical Biomarkers Group” led by Professor Peng Zhongkang, a Chinese expert at Harvard Medical School. The members are mainly doctors and engineers from both sides of the Taiwan Straits (Mainland and Taiwan). In addition to experts in the academic and medical circles, the Dynamic Biomedical Indicators team and the innovative R&D staff of mobile phone manufacturer HTC are responsible for technology R&D integration, user interface and product development and manufacturing.

人类史上最大的医学竞赛将迎来最终对决

"Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE" is a medical diagnostic system development competition based on the concept of "Star Trek". After the competition rules were announced in 2012, more than 300 teams from around the world registered to participate in the competition. After a series of intense phase-outs, only two teams survived into the finals.

The medical Tricorder required by the competition must continuously record five basic vital signs: blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, respiration, blood oxygen concentration, and detection of 13 diseases or health conditions. The test program includes 10 items designated by the organizer (anemia, urinary tract infection, type 2 diabetes, atrial fibrillation, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, otitis media, leukopenia and complete health), and 3 optional testing items. (including 3 of 10 items including hypertension, melanoma, and herpes zoster).

Professor Peng Zhongkang, the team leader of Harvard, said that in addition to the above functions, in addition to the above functions, accurate organ vitality monitoring and disease detection are required. The organizer also has two strict requirements. First of all, the users of the medical three-degree instrument are ordinary consumers who do not have a medical professional background. Therefore, the design of the three-dimensional instrument system, from the hardware to the user interface, must be very simple and easy to operate.

In addition, the total weight of the entire system must be less than 5 pounds (about 2.3 kilograms), to achieve the "light and thin" modern technology requirements. Therefore, the team not only needs to develop a number of clinical knowledge and application of a wide range of clinical expertise, but also must have the world's top user interface design and instrument manufacturing capabilities.

Dr. Liu Yanhui, a member of the Harvard team, said: "For example, one part of our system is to use a very lightweight single-conductance electrocardiograph. Through our proprietary patent computing technology, we can not only meet the requirements of monitoring a basic vital sign. It can accurately diagnose both atrial fibrillation and sleep apnea. It achieves the most functions under the minimum component weight." Dr. Liu Yanhui has returned to China to establish Nanjing Fengsheng Yongkang Software Technology Co., Ltd., dedicated to sleep health management in medical care. And the promotion of the mass market, and many top three hospitals and Huawei reached a cooperation.
