Potato rough starch processing technology

Huinong School introduces the processing technology of potato crude starch and hopes to help everyone.

Process flow

Potato→cleaning→grinding→separate separation→precipitation→drying→coarse starch

Operation points

(1) Refining: Select potatoes with more starch, pick out rotten potatoes and diseased potatoes, put them into the washing tank, add water and stir the potato pieces with a stick. The washed potato pieces are placed in a grinder, ground while adding water, ground into a starch slurry, and flowed into a receiving tank.

(2) Separation: Separate the potato dregs from the starch slurry in two separate coarse and fine flat sieves, or put the starch slurry into the bag, fasten the bag mouth, put it into the trough, and step on it with the foot to make the starch from the bag. The hole overflows, and the potato residue is added with water and then stepped on.

(3) Precipitation: The starch milk is placed in a sedimentation tank, stirred well, and allowed to stand for 5 hours or more, and the starch is precipitated on the bottom layer. The upper clear liquid is removed, and the starch is separated. The separated starch has a large amount of impurities, and can be stirred in a washing tank with water, left to stand for several hours, and then the above clear liquid is removed. After repeated washing for 3 to 4 times, after the final standing, the upper layer is the outer skin, the middle layer is starch, and the lower layer is sediment. The upper layer of impurities is scraped off, and the intermediate starch layer is taken out, which is wet starch.

(4) Drying: Cut the wet starch block into small pieces, and then spread it in a bamboo sieve or a light wooden dish. After drying in the sunlight, the starch block can be broken by hand. It can also be dried manually.
