Researchers discover hundreds of new gut bacteria

Medical News February 18, Australia's Hudson Medical Research Institute recently published a press release said that the researchers and the United Kingdom and Canada colleagues found more than 100 new intestinal bacteria in the human body, is expected to develop a gastrointestinal disorder based on this New methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as gastrointestinal infections.
There are a large number of bacteria living in the human intestine, which play an important role in metabolism, immunity and cardiovascular function. The researchers collected fecal samples from 20 volunteers from the UK and Canada. On this basis, 737 bacterial strains were successfully developed and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequencing was performed. The analysis showed that the flora consisted of 273 species of bacteria, of which 105 were new species.
In addition, the first time in this study, the genetic sequence of 173 bacteria was detected, increasing the number of known human intestinal bacterial genomes by 37%. Research papers have been published in the British journal Nature Biotechnology.
Samuel Foster, the first author of the paper and the Hudson Medical Institute, said: "This study created the largest and most comprehensive public database of intestinal bacteria, and the intestinal flora has an important impact on health and disease . ""
Trevor Laurie of the Sanger Institute at the Welkom Foundation in the UK said: "This resource will make microbial flora analysis faster, cheaper and more accurate, and will help further study their biological characteristics and Features."
